Energy Efficiency Standards Passed by AZ Corporation Commission
On July 27, 2010, the Arizona Corporation Commission unanimously approved a final Energy Efficiency Standard Rule, which is a big step forward for our state.
The Energy Efficiency Standard will achieve a 22 percent reduction in retail energy sales by 2020. Utility companies will incorporate programs that provide tools and incentives for customers to reduce their energy demand. Examples of such programs can include weatherization, home energy audits, and promotion of energy-saving devices (such as compact fluorescent light bulbs and Energy Star appiances).
The decrease in energy demand will help save ratepayers money and will also reduce the need for additional power generation. This will result in less air pollution, decreased water use, fewer emissions that contribute to climate change, and a more sustainable future for our state.
