Switch to LED's to Save Money This Holiday Season

By Rob Madden - Posted on 18 November 2011

Whether you are adding to your existing holiday lights or replacing your old ones, LED (light emitting diode) lights are the ones to buy to save energy and money. LED lights use about 90% less electricity than traditional incandescent holiday lights, which adds up to big savings on your electric bill. For example, if you typically decorate with five, 100-bulb strands of incandescent lights and keep them on for five hours a night, switching to LED lights can save you $40 per month. So your new LED lights will pay for themselves in just a few weeks.

LED holiday lights will not only reduce your energy usage, but are good for the environment. In addition to saving energy and money, LED lights provide other great benefits, including:
  • Much cooler burning than standard lights, so they are much safer
  • They draw much less power, so it is safer to string together long strands
  • They last 25,000+ hours -- many times longer than standard lights
  • They use up to 90 percent less energy than standard lights
  • If one bulb burns out, the rest of the strand still works <- One of my favorite attributes!
  • Great vibrant colors and lots of styles now available
While LED holiday lights cost slightly more than traditional bulbs, they quickly pay for themselves when you consider the energy savings.  LED lights last longer than conventional bulbs, give off less heat and, since they use less electricity, can be strung in longer strands. Help your budget and the environment this holiday season by decorating with LED lights.
